The National Instruments PCI-CAN/2 jumpers should be in the position for external power.

Power supply connector B2

The ELMB motherboard ver 3 is equipped with a connector with screw terminals. It is possible to power the three parts of the ELMB with completely isolated ground connections using three separate power supplies. When no isolation is needed it is possible to use the same supply for all the power. However in the case when the CAN PC interface card is powered via the CANbus connector the supply should be between  8 V and 12 V.

Care should be taken that the power lines do not have short undervoltages or noise spikes below 5.5V even as short as 1 us. This could  reset the microcontrollers and/or put the ADC in an undefined state. Use shielded power lines in noisy environments!
